Domain Names

The domain name has been created to make easier for the user to know by heart the WEB addresses, making it the main virtual ad. Then companies can be easily identified, either by selling or by making their products or services known. Better yet: No boundaries. For this reasons many, consider it an “ON LINE TRADEMARK”.

The FAPESP (Foundation of the Research Support of the State of São Paulo) by decision of CG (Steering Committee) is being responsible for the registration and respective maintenance of the domain names in Brazil.

In our country the domain names can be registered by any domestic entity, either individual or

Legal Corporation. Some restrictions have been established regarding foreigners:

• The registrations will be granted to legal corporations only;
• All concerns are under an obligation to legally establish themselves in the country within 12 months, under the penalty of losing the registration.

We are able to execute the protection and maintenance of any domain name registration and to assume international disputes before the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization).
